  In this issue, we encourage project owners to apply for a Fab Replication Grant to replicate projects in other Fab Labs around the world. The grant provides $1,000 cash and there are up to 30 grants available. A sample Grant candidate - Flone - is featured in an article below.

From January 15th until the 18th, the country's largest science and technology fair was held in Yachay, Ecuador. The fair, called "Innópolis: Knowledge is Freedom," was the first national event which combined national and international experiences on entrepreneurship and innovation.

From 1st Moscow Fab Lab to 100 Youth Innovation Centers Across Russia

Simone Amber, co-founder of Fab Lab Connect and founder of Schlumberger Excellence in Education Development (SEED), was inspired by MIT Professor Neil Gershenfeld’s idea of Fab Lab and in 2009 built a partnership between D.E.Baird (retired Schlumberger CEO), Stanford University, MIT and SEED to create the first Fab Lab in Russia.

Flone Flying Phone
Has Applied For A
Fab Replication Grant


Flone is a drone – an unmanned aerial vehicle – that uses a smartphone as an extension of a flight controller. The Flone team in Spain believes more Flones should be produced around the world. Therefore, they are entering it for a Fab Lab Connect “Fab Replication Grant” which awards US$1,000 for project owners and production support for the new Fab Labs chosen to replicate their projects. There will be up to 30 grants awarded.
Deadline to enter is March 31, 2015.
